Hotel Explora Patagonia, also known as Explora Salto Chico, is one of the most distinctive and exclusive lodges in Torres del Paine National Park. Perched on the shores of Lake Pehoé, with uninterrupted views of the Paine Massif and the granite towers themselves, it combines remote isolation with high-end comfort.
The architecture is striking: a long, low-slung, whitewashed building that stands in deliberate contrast to its dramatic surroundings. Designed by Chilean architect Germán del Sol in the 1990s, the hotel avoids traditional rustic lodge aesthetics. Instead, it embodies minimalist lines, large horizontal windows, and stark geometric forms.
Inside, natural wood and muted furnishings are a foil to the jaw-dropping Cordillera del Paine outside, let in through the panoramic windows, which also frame the impressive Salto Chico Waterfall on the other side of the hotel.
Soft adventures take guests riding, hiking, driving and sailing into the drama and wind of Torres del Paine, but back in time to enjoy the sauna, open-air hot tub or indoor swimming pool and dinner in the Salto Chico Restaurant.
